McCurtain County Jail Trust records remain stored at the Board of County Commissioners office pending an Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation inquiry regarding missing files, according to Sheriff and Jail Trust chairman Kevin Clardy.
Clardy, when asked at the Jail Trust meeting on Tuesday about the status of the organization’s records, replied that he had requested an OSBI investigation into the matter.
“I’m not 100 percent sure they’re missing, they could be just misplaced, we don’t know that (yet),” Clardy said. “The OSBI will determine that.”
He said that as of Tuesday the Jail Trust records remained at the BOCC office.
The subject of the allegedly missing records was mentioned in a recent press release from the Jail Trust’s attorney, Gary James. James stated that he was informed on July 27, by Clardy, that various records belonging to the Jail Trust could not be located.
James stated that he instructed Clardy to secure all other records belonging to the Jail Trust. This led to a dispute between District 1 County Commissioner John Williams and, most notably, Undersheriff Mike Manning that was covered in the Aug. 3 edition of this newspaper.
Both Williams and James later issued press releases regarding the incident which were also published, in the Aug. 5-6 and Tuesday editions, respectively.
