Commissioners reorganize board

The Board of County Commissioners reorganized Monday, following the resignation last week of board chairman and District 2 commissioner Mark Jennings.

Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt has set a June 13 Special Primary Election and a Sept. 12 Special General Election to fill that seat.

The two remaining commissioners elected District 1 commissioner John Williams as chairman and District 3 commissioner Robert Beck as vice chairman.

Before conducting business, commissioners heard from Lonnie Watson, who asked that the McCurtain County Jail Trust remove Larry Hendrix as McCurtain County Jail Administrator because of recent comments he made at a county commissioners’ meeting.

The chairman of the commissioners’ board is one of five members of the jail trust.

The remainder of Monday’s meeting was mostly routine business. Commissioners reviewed four years of recently completed audits for the jail trust.

They also accepted a big for a 50x50x14’ fire station building for the Eagletown Volunteer Fire Department.
