With only two hours remaining in the candidacy filing period Friday, four candidates had filed for the office of county sheriff and three had filed for District 2 county commissioner.

In the race for sheriff, incumbent Kevin Clardy, a Republican, will face primary challenges from Republicans Bruce W. Shirey and Jason Ricketts.

The Republican who gets the most votes after a primary election (June 18) and a primary runoff  (Aug. 27), if needed, will then face Democrat Steve McKee in the general election (Nov. 5). In the District 2 commissioner race, if no other candidates file, incumbent Tina Foshee-Thomas, a Republican, will in November face the winner of the June 18 Democratic primary election between Democrats Ronald Barnes and Tony Hill.

With two hours left Friday afternoon, no candidates had filed against incumbent court clerk Kathy Gray nor incumbent county clerk Trish Ricketts.
