McCurtain County commissioners on Monday chose the second-in-command to former District 2 Mark Jennings to be interim county commissioner for the district until voters approve a new commissioner.

County commissioners had a full house at Monday’s meeting, including news media.

Election board records show Ray Bamburg is a resident of Rodeo Drive in Broken Bow. Though Oklahoma statutes require those seeking the office of county commissioner to be a resident of the district they seek to serve, that is not a requirement of interim appointees.
Records show Bamburg is a registered voter in the county where he was appointed, which is required by Oklahoma statutes.
